Friendly unagi

Sushi 2 days in a row, this time I had some pretty tasty unagi avocado maki at Ichiban Boshi.

This totally reminded me of Friends, where Ross said that 'Unagi' was a state of mind and Joey did a TV ad for Ichiban lipstick for men. LOL...

Friends really crack me up everytime I watch it...every.single.time. I wish they made more show likes that, syndicated programmes nowadays rarely captivate me like that. Anyhooo, besides my usual fav maki sushi, I was feeling so famished that I greedily also ordered chicken-cheese katsu and some mushroom dish to make myself feel less guilty and unhealthy.

Who can resist deep fried cheesy chicken??

Healthy option, or not. :P

The chicken katsu was served piping hot and crispy, and the chicken thigh was moist so when I bit into it, I got the crunch of the outer layer and the tenderness of the meat. The only gripe I have is that it was a little too oily so after awhile, it got a bit jerlat. The mushroom dish was alright, nothing special, though the sauce is a little too sweet for my liking. But it did help to balance the oiliness of the katsu (or at least in my head it did..).

On the whole, Ichiban Boshi is a chain restaurant so the standards there are pretty much the same with all other mid-range chain restaurants like Sushi-Tei. It's not bad as a quick fix if you're craving for Jap food, but don't expect anything much more than that.
