Foreigners inciting singaporeans to hate foreigners

Da fug?! Who would have known that The Real Singapore is actually The Real Australia-Singapore (TRAS)? So all these while, the source of all the online hate towards foreigners actually comes from a foreigner. Oh, the irony of it.

But then again, based on what I found online, writing xenophobic articles is a lucrative business in Singapore! From google, TRAS is earning US$ 983 a day and is worth US$ 707, 760!!!! Seriously, that's ALOT of money to be made in egging Singaporeans on to hate their government and hate their foreign guests. Damnit! I should have started a site like this myself if I had known that I can make this much moolah instead of my boring desk job. After all, I'm just capitalising on the current negative online sentiments against the government and the pesky foreigners that come to steal our jobs/education/women blah blah blah. Now, we can even add 'stealing our alternative media' to the list.

Anyhoo...I suppose all that money earned from stirring shit can now potentially be used to pay off any penalties or legal fees if they are charged and claim trial. Not forgetting the many many 'famous' people who were looking for them to sue them for fraud and defamation.

At least the money made off Singaporeans' backs may be returned to true blue Singaporeans. That's karma for you.

Things are not looking too good for WP or PAP

Actually I think that many Singaporeans secretly don't really care too much about the nitty gritty details about the management of town councils. I mean, seriously, don't we have better things to do than to pour through some 20 pages of audit report. I'd much rather go fly a kite thankewverymuch (but recently really quite windy, perfect weather to have picnic and fly kites at Marina Barrage). As long as our estates are clean and well-maintained, essential amenities and services are easily accessible and available, and conservancy charges are reasonable, people won't complain too much (I think). Usually people only start to make noise when their lives are affected by an inconvenience or having to cough up more money, but that's not the point.

Anyhoo this to-ing and fro-ing between the PAP and WP over municipal book-keeping just looks so childish and silly to me. In trying to one-up each other, they expose their own short-comings and end up shooting their own feet.

To the WP: You guys really look like you're struggling to run more than one constituency. And if you can't even manage the books for 3 town councils, it doesn't really say very much about your ability to potentially manage the whole of Singapore. It also doesn't help matters much when you choose to keep quiet everytime an issue like this comes up - people want explanations, excuses, anything but silence. Silence makes you look stupid for your mistakes and makes us look stupid for voting for you.

To the PAP: You guys should make sure that before you throw stones at other people's town council, your own town council is not made of glass. The issue of conflict of interest is particularly worth highlighting because people have brought up so many instances where there could be a potential conflict of interest between PAP and PAP-related entities e.g. AIM, E M services, OKP Holdings etc. So, don't say I didn't warn you...

At the end of the day, I think people won't remember all these politicking between parties but they will remember and vote for the party that will deliver tangible policies with results that reflect an increase in the standards of living of the people.

Friendly unagi

Sushi 2 days in a row, this time I had some pretty tasty unagi avocado maki at Ichiban Boshi.

Unagi - a state of mind where I keep thinking of eel sushi

This totally reminded me of Friends, where Ross said that 'Unagi' was a state of mind and Joey did a TV ad for Ichiban lipstick for men. LOL...

Friends really crack me up everytime I watch it...every.single.time. I wish they made more show likes that, syndicated programmes nowadays rarely captivate me like that. Anyhooo, besides my usual fav maki sushi, I was feeling so famished that I greedily also ordered chicken-cheese katsu and some mushroom dish to make myself feel less guilty and unhealthy.

Who can resist deep fried cheesy chicken??
Healthy option, or not. :P
The chicken katsu was served piping hot and crispy, and the chicken thigh was moist so when I bit into it, I got the crunch of the outer layer and the tenderness of the meat. The only gripe I have is that it was a little too oily so after awhile, it got a bit jerlat. The mushroom dish was alright, nothing special, though the sauce is a little too sweet for my liking. But it did help to balance the oiliness of the katsu (or at least in my head it did..).

On the whole, Ichiban Boshi is a chain restaurant so the standards there are pretty much the same with all other mid-range chain restaurants like Sushi-Tei. It's not bad as a quick fix if you're craving for Jap food, but don't expect anything much more than that.

Craving for more sushi??

What's wrong with me? I thought I had satisfied my california maki craving by having it for lunch today but NOoooo....my body wants more more more of it!

But seriously, this maki is soooo gooood!! The rice to filling ratio is just nice, the ingredients are fresh and I just love how the little balls of orangey goodness just bursts into my mouth into one delightful umami bomb! *salivating* [For those who are interested, I got them from the Medi-ya Supermarket at Liang Court.]

To placate my demanding tummy, I'm gonna hunt down for delicious sushi pictures online (why torture myself right?) so that I can dream of them when I go to sleep in like.....soon. LOL!

Sleeping with the dead

In an interesting twist of events, Khaw Boon Wan has revealed in Parliament that the plan to run a commercial columbarium near the upcoming Fernvale Lea housing estate is not in line with their plan for a site designated for a temple. Like DUH?! This really makes Lam Pin Min look like a fool for organising a dialogue session, only for him to be shot down by opposing residents then, and by his own paymaster now *kwa kwa kwaaa*.

But in all seriousness, I would have thought that with all these self-proclaimed technocrats in government, Lammy (can I call you that Pin Min??) would have thought to raise the issue internally among the various government bodies, do a thorough check on the winning tenderer, deconflict any found issues, BEFORE holding a dialogue defending Eternal Pure Land right???? (Btw that a commercial entity would register a name like Eternal Pure Land so that it can look like a religious organisation and bid for a site reserved for religious purposes is just sooo sneaky and reeks of impure intentions)

Anyhoo...it seems like Eternal Impure Land (a more apt name imho) will still be managing that plot of land since Boon Wan says that he is still in discussion with them to restore the site into a temple. This then begs the question that the Fernvale residents have been asking, can a commercial entity without any religious affiliations bid and manage a land that is reserved for religious purposes? Wouldn't this set a precedence for other cash rich secular companies to bid and price out smaller, less-endowed religious organisations for religious space? I have a feeling this will open a whole new can of worms for URA/MSF if guidelines for this issue is not properly defined, don't say I didn't warn you...

At the end of the day, it's too bad that Fernvale Lea residents who don't like sleeping next to the dead will still not have much of a choice because even if a Chinese temple is erected there, the temple can still house an incidental columbarium (imho, sleeping with the living is sometimes more scary than sleeping next to the dead). But this incident does make it seem like if enough noise is made about something, the government will take it seriously (although it doesn't mean that they will accede to your request, they will just convene with another review committee). So next time if you don't like something in Singapore, you know what to do! =P
